Our learn-to-swim classes cater to children aged 4 and up, focusing on character development and confidence-building through a specialised curriculum. With small class sizes, we provide personalised attention, focusing on water safety and strong swimming foundations.

Experience our year-round learn-to-swim programs featuring small student-to-teacher ratios, ensuring rapid progress and peace of mind. New students undergo a brief assessment to tailor instruction from day one. 

Swim Squads

At Hooked Swim, we are dedicated to unlocking your child’s swimming potential. Our squad programs enhance technique, fitness, and speed while instilling a lifelong passion for swimming. Emphasizing character development, hard work, and leadership, our squads foster a balanced lifestyle and a fun, supportive environment.

Learn to swim: Beginner

The Beginner levels focus on introducing young swimmers to the water and building a solid foundation in basic swimming skills. These levels are designed to develop water confidence, body alignment, balance, and basic stroke techniques. Swimmers are guided through a series of fun and engaging activities that make them feel comfortable in the water while learning essential skills.

Best suited for: Children and young swimmers who are new to swimming or have limited experience in the water. These levels are perfect for those who need to build water confidence and learn basic swimming techniques.

1 Stripe

Focus: Developing water confidence and body alignment.

Swimmers will learn to retrieve objects from the bottom of the pool, float on their front and back, and complete 5 meters of freestyle arms and 5 meters of backstroke with a kickboard.

2 Stripes

Focus: Developing balance.

Swimmers will become proficient in kicking and breathing on their sides. They will also start learning freestyle and backstroke without assistance.

3 Stripes

Focus: Breathing and body control.

Swimmers will become proficient in breathing while performing freestyle and swimming backstroke unassisted. They will also start learning breaststroke leg movements, forward rolls, and dolphin kicks.

5 Stripes

Focus: Body coordination.

Swimmers will continue developing freestyle with a 3/4 catch-up drill and backstroke with a shoulder-led recovery. They will be able to swim 25 meters of breaststroke unassisted. Butterfly arms will be introduced with fins.

Bronze Cap

Focus: Stroke awareness and technique improvement.

This level emphasizes drills to enhance stroke technique across all strokes, introduces full-stroke butterfly, and starts teaching tumble turns.

  • Achieve 200 meters of freestyle, 150 meters of backstroke, and 150 meters of breaststroke.

The Intermediate levels are all about refining stroke technique, enhancing coordination, and building endurance. Swimmers at this stage focus on improving their skills across all strokes and learning to swim longer distances with proper form. These levels introduce more drills and skills that prepare swimmers for the next stage of development.

Best suited for: Swimmers who have mastered water confidence, balance, body control breathing while swimming, are now ready to enhance their technique, increase their endurance, and learn more advanced swimming skills. This group is ideal for those who are preparing to transition to stroke development.

Learn to swim: Intermediate

The Intermediate levels are all about refining stroke technique, enhancing coordination, and building endurance. Swimmers at this stage focus on improving their skills across all strokes and learning to swim longer distances with proper form. These levels introduce more complex drills and skills that prepare swimmers for competitive swimming environments.

Best suited for: Swimmers who have mastered basic swimming skills and are ready to improve their technique, increase their endurance, and learn more advanced swimming skills. This group is ideal for those who are preparing to transition from recreational to more structured and technique-focused swimming.

4 Stripes

Focus: Propulsion.

Swimmers will refine their freestyle technique, swimming 25 meters with proper form, and improve their backstroke. They will work on perfecting the breaststroke kick and learn breaststroke arms.

5 Stripes

Focus: Body coordination.

Swimmers will incorporate speed work and racing skills to prepare for the Junior Emerging Squad.

  • Achieve 400 meters of freestyle, 300 meters of backstroke, 300 meters of breaststroke, and 25 meters of butterfly without fins.

Junior Emerging Squad

The first squad following the Learn to Swim program.

The focus is on developing skills such as dives and tumble turns, while improving stroke technique across all four strokes. Sessions last 60 minutes, with a recommendation of 2-3 sessions per week. Typical age range: 8-11 years.

The Advanced levels are designed for swimmers who have a solid foundation in all four strokes and are ready to focus on advanced techniques, endurance, and speed. These levels prepare swimmers for competitive swimming by emphasizing stroke efficiency, racing skills, and conditioning in a more rigorous training environment.

Best suited for: Swimmers who have progressed beyond basic and intermediate skills. These levels are ideal for those who want to improve their speed, endurance, and technique, and who are preparing for swim squads or competitions.

Learn to swim: Advance

The Advanced levels are designed for swimmers who have a solid foundation in all four strokes and are ready to focus on advanced techniques, endurance, and speed. These levels prepare swimmers for competitive swimming by emphasizing stroke efficiency, racing skills, and conditioning in a more rigorous training environment.

Best suited for: Swimmers who have progressed beyond basic and intermediate skills and are interested in competitive swimming. These levels are ideal for those who want to improve their speed, endurance, and technique, and who are preparing for swim squads or competitions.

With personalized coaching and a supportive squad environment, swimmers will build the confidence and competence needed to excel in competition. Whether you’re new to racing or eager to elevate your skills, our Beginner Squad provides the ideal foundation for success in the competitive swimming arena.

Junior Competitive Squad

 

Swim: 3-4 sessions per week

Length: 1 hour and 15 minutes

Age: 10-12 years 

Swim Squads: Intermediate

The State Squad is the level above the Junior Competitive Squad, tailored for dedicated young swimmers in competitive swimming. We focus on advancing skills in all four strokes, refining technique, enhancing endurance and speed, and preparing swimmers for peak competitive performance while laying the foundations for future aspirations.

State Squad

 

Swim: 4-5 sessions per week

Length: 1 hour and 30 minutes

Dryland: 30 minutes 3 x week

Age: 11-14 years 

Swim Squads: Advance

The Elite Swimming program at Hooked Swim is designed for swimmers at the pinnacle of competitive performance, comprising two advanced squads: the Age National Squad and the National Squad. The Age National Squad caters to accomplished swimmers fully committed to the sport, focusing on refining all four strokes, improving race skills, and preparing athletes for national-level competition. Building upon this foundation, the National Squad is tailored for elite open swimmers dedicated to achieving their optimal performance goals. This program hones individual skills and inspires athletes to excel in national and international competitions, nurturing aspirations for success on the global stage. Together, these squads represent the highest level of competitive swimming at Hooked Swim, providing the tools and support necessary for swimmers to reach their fullest potential.

Age National Squad

 

Swim: 6-7 sessions per week

Length: 1.5 – 2 hours

Gym: 2 per week

Age: 13-16 years 

National Squad

 

Swim: 7-9 sessions per week

Length: 1.5 – 2 hours

Gym: 2 per week

Age: 16+ years 

Swim Squads: Non-competitive

The Age and Senior Surf Squads at Hooked Swim are tailored for non-competitive swimmers aiming to enhance their swimming skills and competitive edge. The Age Surf Squad focuses on young athletes, helping them develop strength, endurance, and technique specific to surf lifesaving, water polo and triathlon events, while the Senior Surf Squad is designed for older, more experienced athletes who seek to refine their skills and maintain peak performance in competitions. Both squads emphasize fitness, specific training, and race preparedness, providing a comprehensive program that equips athletes with the skills and stamina needed to excel in your chosen competition.
